"Ripped" refers to cutting the wood along its grain for a lengthwise cut. This is how we make our six and seven foot split posts by hand milling or "ripping" the splits with chainsaws. This includes facing the split, giving it a 2 inch wide smooth surface for easy boring for fencing wire.
